Welcome to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio
| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
OCTOBER 21, 2008
Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were reopened Monday after being closed for five days to the City of Toledo.
Doors had been closed to Toledo since Oct. 15 due to overcrowding but were reopened on Monday when the overall population dropped to 582 or 91 percent.
Toledo’s share of the population on Monday stood at 243 or 99.6 percent. Other jurisdictions were 55.5 or 90 percent for Defiance County; 29.5 or 60 percent for Fulton County; 36 or 100 percent for Henry County; 171.5 or 87 percent for Lucas County and 46.5 or 93 percent for Williams County.
The overcrowding emergency was declared by Executive Director Jim Dennis. It is the 17th overcrowding emergency to be declared in 2008. There were 23 such emergencies declared in 2007 and 13 in 2006.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent or 606. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
