FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Remains at CCNO

OCTOBER 11, 2007

Population figures still remain high for the second consecutive week at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.

CCNO’s population stood at 606 or 94 percent as of Thursday morning, still high but not enough to close doors to any particular jurisdiction.  Instead, pleas went out to all jurisdictions asking to grant early releases as well as limit new offenders being sent to the facility.

Henry County stood at 37.5 or 99 percent; Defiance County at 60.5 or 98 percent; City of Toledo 235 or 96 percent; Lucas County at 190 or 96 percent; Williams County at 46 or 92 percent; and Fulton County at 37 or 74 percent.

When CCNO reaches 95 percent or 610, jail doors will be closed to those jurisdictions exceeding their allocations.

CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
