Welcome to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OCTOBER 9, 2007
Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were closed Tuesday morning to Henry County and the City of Toledo due to overcrowding.
Tuesday’s overall population stood at 623 or 97 percent and peaked over the weekend to 635 or 99 percent. Reviewing the holiday weekend, the population stood at 626 or 97.5 percent on Saturday, 635 or 99 percent on Sunday; and 628 or 98 percent on Monday. At one time, jail doors had also been closed to Defiance and Lucas counties but were reopened as both jurisdictions were able to reduce numbers.
Henry County’s population as of Tuesday morning stood at 38.5 or 101 percent; City of Toledo 249.5 or 102 percent; Defiance County at 60.5 or 97 percent; Lucas County at 128 or 95 percent; Fulton County at 45 or 90 percent; and Williams County at 40.5 or 81 percent. CCNO will not accept offenders from the City of Toledo or Henry County until they meet their bed allocation numbers.
It was the 23rd overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
