FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Emergency

OCTOBER 5, 2007

The City of Toledo and Henry County officials were told Friday morning not to bring any offenders to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio as doors were closed to both jurisdictions due to overcrowding.

The City of Toledo had a population count of 246.5 or 101 percent.  Henry County stood at 41 or 108 percent.  Officials are also keeping a close watch on Lucas County as its’ population stood at 193 or 97 percent followed by Defiance County at 58 or 94 percent.  The overall population stood at 616 or 96 percent.

It was the 22nd overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.

CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
