SEPTEMBER 24, 2007
Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were opened to all jurisdictions by mid Monday afternoon.
Doors had been closed Saturday to Fulton County and the City of Toledo as their populations peaked to 101 percent. Fulton County’s population reached 50.5 and City of Toledo’s population stood at 244.5. The population for the entire facility reached 626 or 97.5 percent.
Monday morning’s overall population stood at 607 or 95 percent. Fulton County was still at 50.5 or 101 percent. Toledo’s population lowered to 237 or 97 percent. Other jurisdictions stood at 57 or 92 percent for Defiance County; 30 or 79 percent for Henry County; 186.5 or 94 percent for Lucas County; and 46 or 92 percent for Williams County.
Early releases were requested from jurisdictions that were 90 percent over their bed allotments.
By 2:45 p.m. Monday, CCNO’s population had been reduced to 586 or 91 percent.
It was the 19th overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
