FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Emergency Cancelled

SEPTEMBER 17, 2007

Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were closed to two jurisdictions over the weekend due to overcrowding conditions but reopened this morning.

Doors were closed Saturday to Fulton County and the City of Toledo.  Fulton County’s population peaked to 51 or 102 percent while the population for the City of Toledo stood at 250 or 102 percent.  The overall population stood at 622 or 96.8 percent.

This morning’s overall population, after morning releases, stood at 592 or 92 percent, allowing offenders to be received once again from Fulton County and the City of Toledo.  Fulton County’s count stood at 50.5 or 101 percent while the City of Toledo stood at 241.5 or 99 percent.

It was the 18th overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.

CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
