Welcome to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio
| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
AUGUST 22, 2008
Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were open after being closed to two jurisdictions.
Doors had been closed yesterday to the City of Toledo and Defiance County as both jurisdictions exceeded their bed numbers. The overall population totaled 611 or 96 percent. Doors were opened to Defiance County Thursday afternoon.
Doors were still closed to Toledo this morning. Toledo's population stood at 269.5 or 110 percent of capacity (26 over their allocation). The overall population on Friday morning was 593 or 93 percent.
This is the eleventh overcrowding emergency to be declared in 2008. There were 23 such emergencies declared in 2007 and 13 in 2006.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent or 606. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
