FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Emergency Cancelled

AUGUST 14, 2007

Doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were opened early Tuesday afternoon after being closed since Saturday to the City of Toledo due to overcrowding conditions.

Doors were closed Saturday to the City of Toledo when its population figures peaked to 267.5 or 109 percent, 23.5 over.  The total population reached 618 or 96 percent.

Jail doors were opened at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when Toledo was able to reduce its population.  The overall jail population stood at 578 or 90 percent.

It was the 17th overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.

CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
