FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Emergency Cancelled

AUGUST 8, 2007

Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were opened late Wednesday afternoon to the City of Toledo after being closed to the jurisdiction for almost five days in a row.

Jail doors have been closed to the City of Toledo since Saturday due to exceeding its allocated numbers.  Doors were opened to the City of Toledo at 5 p.m. Wednesday as the jail’s overall population reached 578 or 90 percent.  Due to the reduced population overall, that allowed jail doors to be open to the City of Toledo which is still nine beds over its allotment.

It was the 16th overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.

CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
