Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio remain closed for the fifth day in a row to the City of Toledo.
CCNO’s overall population stood at 589 or 92 percent this morning. An overcrowding emergency was declared on Saturday in which jail doors were closed to the City of Toledo that is currently eight over their bed allocation.
Toledo’s count stood at 279.5 or 114 percent on Saturday; 273.5 or 112 percent on Sunday; 269 or 110 percent on Monday; 257 or 105 percent Tuesday; and 252 or 103 percent today.
CCNO will not accept offenders form the City of Toledo until it reduces its bed allocation numbers or the overall population drops to 90 percent or 574.
Other jurisdictional counts stood at 57.5 or 93 percent for Defiance County; 42.5 or 87 percent for Fulton County; 27.5 or 76 percent for Henry County; 170 or 86 percent for Lucas County; and 39.5 or 79 percent for Williams County.
It is the tenth overcrowding emergency to be declared in 2008. There were 23 such emergencies declared in 2007 and 13 in 2006.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent or 606. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
