FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Emergency

AUGUST 6, 2007

Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were closed Saturday and remain closed to the City of Toledo.

Toledo’s population peaked to 281 or 115 percent on Saturday, 37 over its allocated numbers.  Although not closed, Williams County’s count stood at 49.5 or 99 percent.  The overall population stood at 615 or 96 percent.

Monday’s count for Toledo stood at 276.5 or 113 percent, 32.5 over its allocated numbers.  Williams County was at 48.5 or 97 percent.  Other jurisdictions included Defiance County at 50.5 or 81 percent; Fulton County at 40.5 or 81 percent; Henry County at 29 or 76 percent; and Lucas County at 165 or 83 percent.  The overall population stood at 610 or 95 percent.

It was the 16th overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.

CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
