FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Emergency

JULY 24, 2007

Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were opened to all after being closed over the weekend to two jurisdictions.

Jail doors were opened Tuesday morning as the overall population count stood at 567 or 88 percent.

Jail doors had been closed to Defiance County and the City of Toledo when bed allocations were exceeded.  The overall population peaked to a high of 621 or 97 percent over the past weekend.

It was the 15th overcrowding emergency to be declared at CCNO in 2007.

CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
