Welcome to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAY 5, 2008
Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were closed Saturday to three jurisdictions and remain closed today as a result of overcrowding.
Doors were closed Saturday to the Defiance and Henry counties as well as the City of Toledo. Defiance County’s count stood at 67 or 108 percent capacity; Henry County at 36 or 100 percent and the City of Toledo at 259.3 or 106 percent. Overall the population on Saturday climbed to a total 612 or 96 percent.
As of Monday morning, jail doors were closed to Williams County and continued to be closed to Defiance County and the City of Toledo. Williams County’s count stood at 52.5 or 105 percent while Defiance County stood at 66 or 106 percent and the City of Toledo at 248.8 or 102 percent. Henry County was able to reduce its population to 32 or 89 percent. The remaining jurisdictions stood at 34.8 or 71 percent for Fulton County and 164.8 or 84 percent for Lucas County. Overall the population totaled 599 or 94 percent Monday morning.
It is the fourth overcrowding emergency to be declared in 2008. There were 23 such emergencies declared in 2007 and 13 in 2006.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent or 606. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
