Welcome to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
APRIL 7, 2008
Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio are closed for the second week in a row and remain closed to two jurisdictions due to overcrowding.
Doors were closed Saturday to the City of Toledo and Defiance County.
The population peaked to 630 or 98.7 percent on Saturday. It stood at 618 or 97 percent this morning.
The City of Toledo’s population peaked to 256.3 or 105 percent on Saturday and, as of this morning, stood at 248.3 or 102 percent. Defiance County climbed to 69.5 or 112 percent on Saturday and stood at 68 or 110 percent this morning.
Population counts for other jurisdictions as of this morning stood at 42.8 or 87 percent for Fulton County; 34 or 94 percent for Henry County; 117.3 or 90 percent for Lucas County; and 47 or 94 percent for Williams County.
It is the third overcrowding emergency to be declared in 2008. A similar emergency was declared on March 31 and again April 3. There were 23 such emergencies declared in 2007 and 13 in 2006.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent or 606. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
