FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Overcrowding Emergency Cancellation

FEBRUARY 5, 2007

Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were opened to all jurisdictions early Monday afternoon after being closed over the weekend to the City of Toledo.

Due to a projected population count of 575, jail doors were opened to all jurisdictions around 2 p.m. today.

Jail doors were closed Saturday to the City of Toledo when its share of the population peaked to 260.5 or 107 percent.  The entire CCNO population stood at  622 or 97 percent on Saturday; 621 or 97 percent on Sunday; and at 600 or 93 percent this morning.

There have now been five overcrowding emergencies declared in 2007.  There were 13 overcrowding emergencies declared in 2006 with the next highest being six in 2004.

When CCNO reaches 95 percent or 610 for one day, it results in closing the doors to those jurisdictions exceeding their allocations.  In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
