FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEBRUARY 5, 2007
Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were again closed for a fifth weekend in a row to the City of Toledo.
Jail doors were closed Saturday and remained closed today to the City of Toledo when the overall population count climbed to 622 or 97 percent. Toledo had 260.5 or 107 percent.
Sunday’s count stood at 621 or 97 percent.
This morning’s count stood at 600 or 93 percent. Defiance County stood at 61 or 98 percent; Fulton County at 37 or 74 percent; Henry County at 24 or 63 percent; Lucas County at 181 or 91 percent; City of Toledo 250.5 or 103 percent; and Williams County 46.5 or 93 percent.
The City of Toledo must drop their population below 244 beds or CCNO’s overall population must drop to 578 or 90 percent before the jail doors are opened to them.
There have now been five overcrowding emergencies declared in 2007. There were 13 overcrowding emergencies declared in 2006 with the next highest being six in 2004.
When CCNO reaches 95 percent or 610 for one day, it results in closing the doors to those jurisdictions exceeding their allocations. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
