Taking care of year-end items highlighted Wednesday’s meeting of the Corrections Commission of Northwest Ohio.
Members approved two different bid items during the meeting. Approved was the roof replacement of three areas of the facility. The low bid was awarded to Chaney Roofing Maintenance, Inc., Clyde, Ohio at a cost of $124,644.
The second bid approved was for a replacement prisoner transport vehicle. The bid was awarded to Cardinal Bus Sales & Service, Inc., Lima, Ohio in the amount of $130,800.
Board members approved the replacement of an 80-gallon gas kettle used in the kitchen. The current kettle recently broke down and needs to be replaced. The cost of this purchase is $14,378.08.
Board members also approved the replacement of the current business telephone system. A maintenance agreement cannot be obtained on the current business telephone system due to the age of the system. The purchase of a Voice Over IP system was recommended and approved at a cost of $86,137.40. The purchase will be made from state contract. AT&T is the vendor who was awarded the state contract.
In his operational report, Executive Director Jim Dennis reported Wednesday’s inmate population at 553 or 86 percent. The population averaged 598 or 93 percent in October and 561 or 87 percent in November.
Election of board members was held with Sheriff John Nye as board chair; Sheriff Dave Westrick as vice chair; and Sheriff Kevin Beck as secretary.
