FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Board Meeting

June 23, 2010

The Corrections Commission of Northwest Ohio met today for their regularly scheduled meeting. The Fiscal Report included information on the recently implemented pay-for-stay program. CCNO is averaging $12,000 per month in revenues generated from this program since it began in November 2009. The operational report indicated that the daily population today is 546 or 86% of population. The average daily population for March and April was 544 respectively.  During the months of March and April the population has been down occasionally enough to close a unit, but the population has not been reduced consistently to close a unit on a continuous basis.  May’s average daily population was 549.

CCNO was recently involved in a jail research project. Representatives from the Ohio Bureau of Adult Detention interviewed staff members and offenders. The response to the interview questions will be combined with the responses from eleven other facilities to recommend updates to the Ohio State Jail Minimum Standards.

The review of the Electronic Monitoring program statistics indicate that program participation is lower than normal. Executive Director Jim Dennis stated “we continue to generate revenue and will attempt to increase our numbers to continue to divert inmates from using costly jail beds. The program is still collecting fees, but has been suffering losses from non-payment.”  Inmates pay a daily fee to participate in this jail diversion program. Failure to submit payment for participation will result in incarceration at CCNO.  The equipment must be leased and there are costs for the monitoring that must be paid.

Director of Security Dennis Sullivan and Director of Support Services Scott Bradbee were recognized for twenty years of service at CCNO.  Director Bradbee announced his impending retirement after 30 years of public service.

Board members met in executive session for 14 minutes to discuss security related issues.  No action was taken.
