Welcome to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio
| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE |
Officials learned that federal grant funds are being sought to help those traumatized by violence during Wednesday’s meeting of the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. Also CCNO received special recognition by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitations and Corrections.
CCNO Executive Director Jim Dennis advised board members that CCNO, the Lucas County Jail, TASC of Lucas County and Recovery Services of Northwest Ohio have applied for a $250,000 federal grant to create a men’s trauma diversion program with emphasis to assist veterans and minorities. Mr. Dennis said some men mask traumatic experiences with substance abuse and they would be eligible to participate in the special program. Such a program has been in operation for the past three years for females housed at CCNO.
CCNO was presented “Certification” from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitations and Corrections Bureau of Adult Detention by Bureau Chief Butch Hunyadi. Mr. Hunyadi noted that there are 300 jails in Ohio with less than 100 considered full-service jails to include CCNO. Of those full-service jails, CCNO is one of only seven jails that met 100 percent of the minimum state jail standards. Mr. Dennis gave special thanks to line staff, supervisors and management staff for their help in meeting all state requirements. The certification is effective through 2012.
Mr. Dennis reported Wednesday’s jail population stood at 579 or 90 percent. He noted the population quickly went up over the past weekend but was reduced by Monday. The population averaged 576 or 90 percent in February and peaked to 617 in March.
Board members approved the purchase of a new commercial washer at a cost of $13,295 to replace an 18-year old washer that is leaking and parts are no longer available for the unit. Board members also adopted an investment policy as required by state auditors.
